Beyond The Helmet – Michael “Mig” Rumney | Pt 2

In Part 2 of Beyond The Helmet, we dive into Michael “Mig” Rumney’s racing journey and go right back to where it all began. Growing up with a dad who was a former 1NZ and New Zealand Champion, Mig was surrounded by speedway from a young age. We chat about his childhood idols, his memories of growing up around Rotorua Speedway, and the drivers who inspired him. From there, we follow Mig’s own journey behind the wheel — starting in Ministocks, moving into Stockcars, and eventually making the step into the Superstock class. We also talk about Mig becoming a Rotorua Rascal, before becoming one of the few second-generation Rotorua Rebels and what it meant to finally pull on the Rebels colours — the team he dreamed of representing as a kid. 💙 This is the story of Mig Rumney’s journey through New Zealand speedway — from watching his heroes as a kid to eventually becoming one himself.
