THE UNDY 500, Central Motor Speedway, Cromwell.

CROMWELL STRIPS DOWN, FOR THE UNDY 500. This would have to be one of the biggest sporting events on any New Zealand calendar, and what a magnificent way to kick of the New Year. For those fortunate enough to have been in Central Otago, Cromwells Central Motor Speedway was the venue to be at, as the competitors who have been in training all year, gathered in the arena for "The Undy 500". With the downing of the sun, it was also the downing of the daks, as some quick heart beating, adrenalin filled competitors de-robed in the centre, and the crowds watched on. With big deep breathes, a few serious competitors began to limber up, with back twists, arm raisers, a few bum cheek squeezes , or that may have been to get the wedgey out of the crackle and with the dark of the night certainly overhead, the huge spotlights lit up the arena, lighting up some of the competitors like geckos on a torch. With clock ticking down, the flag was nearing to get "The Undy 500" underway, as nerves were showing as final preparations were made, with headlight adjustments, back wheels pulled into line it was getting near the serious end of the night. No time to trim the bush, no time to adjust the Borat suit, it was time for the World Renowned Flag Dropper (once a competitor himself, holding a few home records, where it trophy suits, The Borat Trims were hanging in his trophy room)... But "Slammin" Sam OCallaghan calls the race and gets ready to drop the flag for the running of The Undy 500.
