CTRA NZ WINGLESS SPRINT CHAMPIONSHIP 2026, ELLESMERE SPEEDWAY.

THE SEASON FINALE - ELLESMERE SPEEDWAY
THE CTRA NZ WINGLESS SPRINTS CHAMPIONSHIP 2026
Gates swing open, and out roll 12 Wingless Sprints, all set too battle it out for the CTRA NZ Title.
Was dam good day, under clear skies, bit of heat but also small breeze and packed around the track, good number of spectators ready too take it all in.
Heat 1, got off too a flyer, but the word flyer came into play when the 15C of Steve Duff went for one of those Mintie Moments down the home straight. The 4C of Mark Morris was like a wasp to ya jelly sandwich and few laps in, it was over for both as wheels collided which launched Steve up and over, as the immaculate 15C broke up like a downed war plane. Absolutely kick in the guts, but after all its racing and when battling hard, sometimes things come unstuck.
Must take this moment to mention something that in my view is certainly not needed, as the infield Rescue Crew are one of the best and always on the ball at Ellesmere too get incidences sorted quickly.
But if you listen about 3 min 40 you hear someone with a gut gurgling scream shouting "Fire... Fire .. Fire" . That is not needed at all, what that does is freaks out people, especially kids. The Crew were there in seconds and in full control.
It reminded me of another incident where the supposed rescue was to take place, with panic and 1 crew member began screaming. That scream then had the little kids started crying as they got freaked out.
So anyway, had to get that out there and hopefully don't hear it again, but hats off too the Ruapuna Motorsport Rescue Inc. Fantastic job once again.
It was some great racing by these lads and of course the one and only ladette out there and congratulations too the Flying Duck, who now has the bragging rights of the NZ Wingless Sprint Champ, Corey Duckmanton and Big Duck Racing
Also quick mention too i think the new bloke out there, Joshua Simmonds in the 78C, in the Feature he has recorded Best Speed of 117.639 km/h... may not have got a placing but top job.
Heres goes the 3 Heats and The 15 Lap Feature.
HEAT 1: 1 MIN 31
HEAT 2: 8 MIN 57
HEAT 3: 14 MIN 09
FEATURE: 19 MIN 27
Although hard to hear at many times, but cheers too the Commentators, Warrick Korstanje and Lawrence Sidnell
